Speak Text tool bar item

Hi Mark,

Seems to me the Speak Text tool bar item should both start and stop speech. In 725 it just starts speaking.

TextSoap 6.2 now available

- Entourage 2008 Script (Preferenes > Plugins). Installs into your scripts menu in Entourage 2008.

- New Cleaner: Smarten Quotes in HTML Text - applies smartens quotes to text in an HTML file, ignoring quotes within tags.

- New cleanPasteboard script command, a more flexible command allows you to optionally specify which pasteboard to work with.

- New preference to increase size of recently used menu list

- BBEdit palette did not disable group popup menu when textsoapAgent was not available

- BBEdit palette did not update when textsoapAgent is launched or changed

- pickCleaner scripting command now has a keyboard friendly interface (no mouse needed). cmd-G to access groups, tab between list & filter field, cmd-. to cancel, return accept

- Check for updates now defaults to on for all new users

- BBEdit palette height is now limited to 4096 pixels (vs. previous 800)

6.2b1 is now available:

- Added Entourage 2008 AppleScript. Takes advantage of some of the new scripting supported added in 6.1.

- New Smarten Quotes in HTML Text smartens text outside of tags.

- New script command cleanPasteboard lets you specify which pasteboard to use. This is useful for more advanced scripting options down the road.

- BBEdit palette is now limited to 4096 pixel height (vs. 800).

This release won't be as big as 6.1. In addition to the above, I'm looking at a few bugs as well, hopefully all in time for release in April to help in celebrating 11 years of TextSoap.

Remove 2 Para Returns add a space

I assume this is a custom cleaner? I only use TextSoap from with Eudora (plug-in)

Some email clients add paragraph returns that I want to eliminate. I need to replace 2 and add a space so words don't concatenate.

If so, would the code be:

and then just add a space bar?

WOuld I do a find replace custom cleaner?

Then, if so, how do I get a custom cleaner into my Eudora Group Mylist? I don't see the Custom Cleaner I created in the Cleaner Library in Prefs > Edit Cleaner Groups

TextSoap 6.1 is now available!

Lots of goodies including textsoapAgent scripting, toggling between rich/plain text modes, major update to clean files Automator action, four new custom cleaner actions and a speak text toolbar button.

And lots of bug fixes and minor improvements - over two dozen of them.

To get the update, launch TextSoap 6, select "Check for Updates" in application menu.

You may have noticed some forum changes. Unfortunately, the company that manages the forums has recently updated their software -- in the process the wiped out any semblance of decent layouts.

I apologize up front if you are encountering any where stuff (like the copyright that goes in the footer appearing smack in the middle of the page).

I am working to try and resolve these issues.

How do I use invisibles in search and replace?

Some articles sent to us by email have line endings (returns) after each line, apparently pre-formatted. How can I delete the unneeded returns while retaining the returns at the end of paragraphs? Thanks.

Feature Brainstorming

I wanted to get an early start on a thread for some feature brainstorming and big wishlist ideas. These would be features that are too big of a change to fit in a dot release and would thus be considered for the next big upgrade. That's still a ways off, but I would like to get some additional ideas bouncing around my head when I do start.

Find and replace and/or export/import option

I am using a large number of "bulk find and replace" cleaners primarily for inserting URLs around company names, universities, place names etc.

Occasionally I need to change some text in many of the bulk cleaners or, several instances of the same text in a particular bulk cleaner because of company takeovers and because I'm slowly improving my abilities with regular expressions and have found more concise ways to select pieces of text.

Is it possible to include a "find and replace" option in each bulk cleaner or alternatively, add the ability to export all the find and replace text in a bulk cleaner, to a text file which can then be tidied up then imported back into the particular bulk cleaner?

I hope I have explained that clearly enough.

Group Editor acting strangely

Hello, I have been evaluating TS the past couple of days for purchase.

I have encountered a problem with the Group Editor. When I add a new group, it shows the contents of "MyList", I have to click on the new group again in order to get a blank list of filters. However, after adding a filter, I get the "MyLIst" contents again and have to click in and out of the new group name in order to see the newly addly filter.

Needless to say this is quite frustrating and is something that would have to be fixed before I purchase this software. I have completely removed the program and its associated files, then reinstalled to try to correct the problem - without any luck.

Please let me know if this is a known problem.

As well, I cannot seem to use TS on filenames. I have added it to the services menu, clicked a filename into editing mode and tried to apply a filter without any luck. As I do not want to have to copy the filename to the clipboard and then use TS, then copy the cleaned text back, I hope this is doable.

TextSoap 6.1b10 is now available.

New goodies include:

Automator Action: "Clean Text Files" now lets you specify the text file encoding and include additional extensions of files to process (when not a known text file format).

New AppleScript commands for the textsoapAgent let you get a list of encodings and validate an encoding. Updated cleanFile command to support encoding and extension options as well.

Improvements:

If markdown.pl script hangs on text, textsoapAgent now cancels the action after 15 seconds.

Only one or two more items left on my list for 6.1.
